Does Kraken Have a Token? Krak, kBTC, INK, and xStocks Explained

Short answer: Kraken has not announced an official KRAK or KRKN exchange token

As of September 16, 2026, Kraken's official product and asset documentation does not identify a native exchange token comparable to BNB or CRO. Krak is an app name, not a token ticker.

A token called KRAK, KRKN, Kraken Coin, or something visually similar should not be treated as official because of its name or logo. Kraken is connected to kBTC, INK, and xStocks, but each has a different issuer, purpose, and risk model.

kBTCBitcoin-backed wrapped tokenIssued by KrakenNo; it represents BTC
INKAnnounced Ink Layer 2 token with launch details still pendingPlanned independent Ink Foundation issuerNo Kraken equity or revenue share

Krak: a product brand, not “Krak App token”

Krak lets users hold, convert, send, and receive supported fiat, stablecoin, and crypto balances. Kraken lists it as a global money app and does not describe a same-name native token.

Claims that users must connect a wallet to claim a KRAK launch airdrop should be treated as suspicious. Krak referrals, KrakBacks, and Earn should be verified inside the official app or on a kraken.com domain.

kBTC: issued by Kraken, but designed to represent Bitcoin

kBTC is issued by Kraken and backed 1:1 by Bitcoin held in Kraken custody. It can be used on networks including Ink, Unichain, Ethereum, and OP Mainnet. A Kraken user can withdraw BTC through a supported kBTC network and receive kBTC, then deposit kBTC back to have the account credited in BTC.

Its purpose is to make Bitcoin usable in DeFi. It does not provide Kraken governance, equity, or a share of exchange revenue. Risks include custody, smart contracts, network compatibility, and sending the token to an unsupported address. Kraken's current support page also says there are no kBTC trading pairs.

INK: closely connected to Kraken, independently issued

Ink is a Layer 2 ecosystem closely integrated with Kraken. Kraken announced plans to integrate the INK token and Ink protocols into its core products and distribute INK to eligible users through Kraken Drops.

The same announcement states that INK will be issued by a subsidiary of the Ink Foundation, an independent entity that stewards the network. INK is not Kraken stock and should not be described as a direct claim on Kraken profits.

xStocks: each token tracks a separate stock or ETF

TSLAx, AAPLx, SPYx, and other xStocks are tokenized instruments issued by Backed rather than a single Kraken platform token. They track specific stocks or ETFs but do not provide ordinary shareholder voting rights. Trading hours, dividend treatment, and jurisdictional access depend on the product terms.

Kraken's parent completed its acquisition of Backed in 2026, vertically integrating more of the issuance, trading, and settlement stack. That does not turn xStocks into Kraken equity.

How to verify a claimed “new Kraken token”

  1. Find the original announcement on kraken.com, blog.kraken.com, or support.kraken.com.
  2. Match the token name, network, and contract address rather than using an address from a search advertisement.
  3. Distinguish a token listed by Kraken from a token issued by Kraken.
  4. Do not join a presale, connect a wallet, or sign approvals before an official contract is published.
  5. Read product and geographic risk disclosures even for legitimate kBTC, INK, and xStocks.

An exchange listing is not an endorsement or proof that the exchange issued an asset. A similar name is not evidence of a relationship.
